Hello Wednesday class…
Based on the fact that we still have not broken into groups yet to begin work on projects, I wanted to offer a schedule suggestion and see what everyone thinks, as it feels like we are getting behind. This schedule is basically restating things we have discussed numerous times now, but have not managed to stick to in class. To make us stick to this schedule (or another schedule, depending on suggestions from the class about what could be added or left out), I suggest that every week, one student (or professor Kurtz) acts as a facilitator, to make sure that we stick to our schedule and do not go over time each specific segment of the class. Please read below and offer suggestions for whether changes should be made or if it sounds good as it is.
6:30-6:40: Quick warm-up exercise (where everyone touches)
6:40-7:20: As a group, go over a tactical media case study that we should all have come in having read. Discuss what worked well and what was problematic about case study. This could also be when eating happens. (for this upcoming week, we could have professor Kurtz point us in the direction of an interesting case study, that we should all come in having read. We could either ask professor Kurtz to give us different case studies for each week, or a different individual in the class organizes one for a specific week and we switch off)
7:20-7:40 – Students propose new ideas (if necessary, depending on the week, everyone might already be in groups for their upcoming project) For this week, that would be everyone deciding which project they would like to work on for the time being, since we already have 6 projects on the table (listed below)
7:40-7:50: Break
7:50-9:00: students work in their smaller groups, planning their project.
Lastly, we have a few projects on the table right now
1- Uganda/Starbucks
2- Invisible Theatre
3- Washing hair of homeless New Yorkers
4- 40 hours project
5- Visual Arts project, not yet defined
6- Peruvian contamination dance at UN
For this upcoming week, we could decide which 2 to 4 projects can get started on immediately, and perhaps the others can be part of the next round (just because it might be difficult to have 6 going on at the same time).
Please let me know your thoughts…so I can come in with an updated version of the schedule for this upcoming Wednesday.
